Self-Care


What is self care?

Self-care is the way we can better deal with the daily stressors. Humans are feeling lonelier, less able to unwind and slow down, this can make us feel more anxious and overwhelmed with the smallest of life tasks.

  • Do you overreact when the fork drops on the floor?

  • Do you get frustrated while waiting in traffic?

  • Are you impatient with the kids when they are not being angels?

Self-care actions that help reduce the above scenarios are

  • Take a walk in nature with a good playlist or podcast

  • Finding time to journal quietly without distractions

  • Having a bath with a good playlist or podcast

  • Workout: lifting, yoga, karate or swim

  • Learn something new

Although getting your nails done and going out to drink with your pals can help with letting off steam. Taking time to pause, take a deep breath, get intouch with your inner feelings. Check in, “why am I overreacting?” When you have become in tune with your inner self you are able to handle daily stressors easier.


Let us try a little experiment. During the next month when you have a moment where you are going to react in a volatile way try this

  • Pause

  • Count back from 5

  • Breathe during each count (in-5-out-4-in-3-out-2-in-1)

  • Find a solution that will have a positive outcome (control only what you can control)

For instance if you are stuck in traffic and you are feeling like you want to hit the horn and yell at the empty vehicle. TRY: pause count and turn on your favorite podcast or some Vanilla Ice!! How do you think you will feel? What can you control?
